Ancient Armenian Acoustics - Saghmosavank Monastery

At Saghmosavank, the focus shifted toward resonance and spatial depth. The Chartar Choir was recorded once again, allowing for a direct comparison of how similar musical material behaves in a different architectural and acoustic environment. In addition, a solo oud performance by Meri Shushanyan was recorded separately from the choir. The oud’s rich low-frequency content and complex overtones engaged closely with the stone interior, emphasizing warmth, decay, and the instrument’s interaction with the surrounding space. This separation of ensemble and solo recordings enabled a clearer understanding of how individual timbres unfold within Saghmosavank’s acoustics.
